Businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala has been denied bail at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
He is facing charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.
He allegedly ordered a hit to have his former partner Tebogo Thobejane killed in October 2023.
Magistrate Syta Prinsloo says she was not satisfied that Matlala would not evade trial given the fact that he also has an Eswatini passport with a different name.
“Having evaluated the evidence, the applicant has failed to demonstrate that he does not pose a flight risk. The applicant has failed to dispel the nature of the defence demonstrated danger to the southeast community…the court is not persuaded…the applicant has not established exceptional circumstances.”
