Leigh Matthews’ killer Donovan Moodley recommended for parole

The lawyer for the family of Leigh Matthews, who was kidnapped and killed in 2004, says her convicted killer Donovan Moodley has been recommended for parole by the parole board.

Moodley abducted Matthews from Bond University and held her captive and demanded ransom.

He pleaded guilty the following year.

However, the Department of Correctional Services says the process for offenders serving life must first be assessed by the Case Management Committee, followed by Correctional Supervision and Parole Board.

Then recommendations are referred to National Council for Correctional Services, before the Minister makes the final decision.

In 2021, Leigh Matthews’ family said they have no interest in meeting Moodley.

They said at the time they want Moodley to remain behind bars.
