A drunk driver crashed into several vehicles on the N3 as they tried to run from the police
A suspected drunk driver has been arrested after crashing into several vehicles on the N3 between Pietermaritzburg and Howick in KwaZulu-Natal and attempting to flee.
The provincial Transport Department says the incident happened, this morning.
It says a chase ensued after a motorist alerted the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate. An officer pulled the bakkie over in Pietermaritzburg, but the driver assaulted him and fled. The bakkie crashed into several other vehicles before the driver was arrested.
“On Hilton Avenue, once again, the Mahindra collided with a light delivery vehicle. Our brave RTI officer, Phiwokuhle Ndabezitha was injured after he rear-ended the Mahindra. The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Sibonisa Duma has wished him a speedy recovery. He saluted him for showing bravery and for going an extra mile in service of the nation,” says the department’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya.
