The Western Cape Minister of Mobility, Isaac Sileku, has announced the closure of six taxi routes following the recent taxi-related violence between two taxi associations, CATA and CODETA.
The disputed routes include Mfuleni to Somerset West, Lwandle to Khayelitsha via Somerset West and Nomzamo to Mfuleni.

This will take effect from next week Wednesday.
Six people have died in recent taxi shootings in Cape Town.
Sileku says the affected routes will be closed for a period of 30 days.
“For me, it’s not about how many people die before I take an action. The fact that people died when they were not supposed to die has actually led me to call you and say this is the decision that I have taken. And if it means that I have to prolong and go to 60 days and got to 90 days, I will do that. But also what is important is that (we must have an) ultimate plan or long-term plan is for us to have stability,” says Sileku.
