The Gauteng Education Department says plans have been made to assist matriculants from schools around Coronationville and Westbury who have been impacted by water outages.
The Department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says teaching has been affected, with concerns for learners who do not live in the area but travel to schools there.
Several people sustained rubber bullet wounds on Wednesday during a protest by residents demanding that authorities address their complaints of water outages.

Mabona says that although there have been contingency plans with water tanks at schools, the continuous outages have impacted the supply.
Mabona adds that teaching has been disrupted in such a way that there isn’t a normal school day.
“The only challenge in Coronationville is that we have those that are coming from outside those areas. Now the arrangement is that especially the Grade 12s, they are writing at the neighboUring schools, we’ve made those arrangements for them to continue to write. We have tanks, Jojo tanks in our schools when we have water, we then fill up those tanks. But if on a continuous basis there’s no water, we will then be depleted,” says Mabona.
