The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng has confirmed that two preservation orders secured by the Asset Forfeiture Unit have been served on members of two syndicates implicated in fraud and corruption at the Tembisa Hospital.
The investigation came as a result of a report from slain whistle-blower and senior Gauteng Health official a Babita Deokaran. She was assassinated outside her Johannesburg home in August 2021.
Her report detailed suspected procurement irregularities within the Tembisa Hospital’s Supply Chain Management.

Gauteng NPA Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the order relates to properties.
“The order relates to properties valued at approximately R47 million as well as luxury vehicles valued at approximately R12 million. The Deputy National Director of the National Prosecuting Authority responsible for the Asset Forfeiture Unit, Advocate Ouma Rabaji-Rasethaba, commended that the fight for justice for the people of our country continues and again stressed that ordinary South Africans are victims of crime and corruption,” says Mjonondwane.
