Western Cape re-opens road linking Citrusdal to N7

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure has re-opened Main Road-310, the crucial route linking the West Coast town of Citrusdal to the N7 highway.

The road was severely damaged by floods in June 2023 and July 2024, when the Olifants River burst its banks, washing away large sections.

Provincial Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers says the reconstruction, declared an emergency project, was essential to restore access to the citrus-producing town, which had been cut off from vital transport links and left struggling economically.

Simmers says they understand infrastructure is an enabler of economic growth and help to the crucial industry of the Western Cape.

“For this project we have done more than simply replace the road. We have instead rebuilt it and upgraded it for the demands of the future, ensuring that Citrusdal is linked to the Western Cape’s transport ecosystem remains unaffected for years to come,” adds Simmers.
