Deputy President Paul Mashatile at the Theewaterskloof Local Municipality, in the Overberg District Municipality, Western Cape ahead of the Land Reform Outreach Programme on September 4, 2025.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has called on farmers to negotiate with government so that land is made accessible to more people through the land reform program.
Mashatile visited the Overberg District in the Western Cape on Thursday to look at government efforts to fast-track land reform.
He has called on the commercial farmers to cooperate with government on its transformation agenda.
Mashatile says, “There must be negotiations, engagements, and by the way government does buy the land, we have been doing, so we are going to continue to do that, so let’s negotiate. Parliament has passed a law to allow government to expropriate land for public use, but in most instances, that’s not our starting point.”
