Two security officers from a cash-in-transit company have sustained minor injuries after a heist on the N8 outside Bloemfontein towards Botshabelo in the Free State.
The Hawks say the incident happened earlier today when suspects rammed the vehicle transporting money.
The security officers are receiving medical attention in hospital.
Hawks Spokesperson Fikiswa Matoti says the road remains closed while forensic investigators comb the crime scene.
“It is alleged that a group of robbers in a BMW rammed a cash vehicle, and it overturned. Security personnel sustained minor injuries as the vehicle overturned. Gun shots were also fired. Suspects fled the scene towards Botshabelo in a grey Toyota Hilux. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. No one has been arrested at this stage. We do not rule out the possibility that the robbery could be linked to other robberies,” says Matoti.
