File: Suspects alleged to have killed and mutilated Bontle Mashiyane in court, June 2022.
The trial of four men accused of kidnapping and killing six-year-old Bontle Mashiyane in Mganduzweni near Masoyi in Mpumalanga has once again been postponed.
The four appeared in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Mbombela.
The matter has been postponed to next year after the state added more charges against the first accused.
The trial is expected to resume on May 2, 2026, to afford the first accused more time to consult with his lawyer.
Mashiyane was killed three years ago, and her mutilated body was found in the bushes near her home.
Mashiyane’s great-grandfather, Moses Mazibane, says they want closure.
“So, we’re thinking that it’s the beginning of the closure, but now we feel that it’s like prolonging. The case was prolonged too much. But we are going to wait until next year. We thought that maybe more people will be added, but we don’t know the kind of charges added. We are going to hear from the court on the day of the court,” reveals Mazibane.
