Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) have been highlighted as one of the grappling effects of unemployment in South Africa.
This during an institutional public lecture in honour of social activist and writer, Dr Brigalia Bam, held by the Nelson Mandela University on Friday.
The lecture was held under the theme “preparing women to govern’ and key issues of women empowerment were discussed.
Dr Bam also raised questions on the upbringing of male children, emphasizing the effect it has on the behaviour of men in society.
“What has happened to the boy child of South Africa? What happened to the values of a South African father ? What happened to the values of a man, any male for that matter? Are there enough models for our young men to copy? Are there models at home. Every child has to get their values at home, what kind of values does a boy child get?”
