Operation Vala Umgodi in the Northern Cape spearheaded a multi-disciplinary high-density operation in the greater Kimberley area on Thursday, 28/08 leading to a number of arrests on various charges.
More than 20 suspects have been arrested in the Northern Cape for contravening immigration laws.
The suspects were apprehended at a construction site in Kimberley after police were tipped off about undocumented workers.
Provincial police spokesperson Merapelo Pilane says, “A total of 21 individuals, aged between 18 and 46, were arrested for contravening immigration laws at construction sites in New Park and Belgravia, Kimberley, following a tip-off about undocumented workers.”
“Employers were fined for violations of immigration legislation. All arrested suspects will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court, while investigations continue.”
