SABC responds to Dr. Ramphele interview


The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says it is aware of the matter relating to the conduct of one of its news presenters during an interview with the Desmond Tutu IP Trust Chairperson, Dr Mamphela Ramphele.

The interview was conducted following a statement issued by the Trust on the Israeli-Gaza War.

The SABC says management took immediate action in line with its internal processes and the presenter in question is currently not scheduled.

The public broadcaster says it is enjoined by various legislation framework that enforces compliance with adhering to the Broadcasting Act and its own editorial policies that ensure the offering of a plurality of views and a variety of news and information.

The SABC adds that its policies are aimed at building trust with the public and in ensuring that content in all formats continues to resonate with the prescripts of its public mandate, and more so in providing universal access to credible content.
