FILE | Protest against gender-based violence in Cape Town.
Nyanga residents and community activists in Cape Town will march to Parliament on Friday to demand justice for 25-year-old Zenande Tshazibane.
She was raped and murdered in her Nyanga home in June, just days after seeking legal protection from her partner.
Authorities have yet to make an arrest.
The Justice for Zenande Initiative Convener, Zuko Mndayi says, “It is actually the reason we are taking these demands to Parliament because she has done everything that society tells women to do. She filed for a protection order, she did go to the court on the 17th of June and yet she was failed by the system, which is why we are taking this to the corridors of power, so that as her voice was silenced we do not dare stay silenced and we continue to raise awareness not only around her name, but around the brutality with which women are faced throughout our country.”
