Family of 101-year-old rape victim in Limpopo demanding justice

The family of a centenarian who was brutally assaulted and raped at Zaaiplaas outside Groblersdal in Limpopo in July last year is demanding justice.

This as pre-sentencing proceedings against the accused, a 27-year-old Sifiso Mahlangu, are underway in camera in the Groblersdal Regional Court.

The accused broke into the victim’s home while she was asleep, assaulted and raped her. The woman was aged 101 when the incident occurred.

A family relative, whose identity cannot be divulged, says they hope the court will hand down a harsh sentence.

“Our grandmother is no longer in a good mental state. Even when you talk to her, her response no longer make sense. It is painful to us as family, but we hope that the law will take place and our grandmother gets justice.”
