Two suspects nabbed for possession of prohibited guns and ammunition

Two suspects have been arrested in Makhaza on the Cape Flats for possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

Police Spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, says members attached to Operation Shanela conducted a high-density operation in the area.

He says officers approached a vehicle and discovered an AK-47 assault rifle and a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Swartbooi says the suspects are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once charged.

“The members conducted a vehicle check point in Japhta K Masemola Drive opposite the local taxi rank following the deadly shooting a day before. A suspicious Toyota LDV approached them and when the driver of the vehicle became aware of the presence of the police members he changed direction. However, he was forced to stay in his lane and brought to a halt,” says Swartbooi.
