New witness to testify as Lusikisiki mass murder trial resumes

The trial of the six men accused of killing 18 people in Lusikisiki and a politician from KwaBhaca last year continues in the local Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape.

They are facing 29 charges, including 19 murder charges, attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

It is alleged that heavily armed people opened fire on a group of people in two different homesteads on the day of the attack on September 28 last year.

The majority of those killed were women.

A new witness is expected to take the stand on Wednesday.

Last week, Warrant Officer Ntsikelelo Sambudla wrapped up his testimony, telling the court that four automatic rifles, magazines and ammunition were confiscated at the homestead of accused number six, Mawethu Nomdlembu, at Ntlezi village in Flagstaff.

Sambudla also told the court that all the confiscated firearms belong to accused number one, Mzukisi Ndamase.

That testimony was dismissed by the court.
