Organised crime remains a threat across the continent: Masemola

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says transnational organised crime remains a major threat across the continent. Masemola was speaking at the opening of the 27th International Interpol Conference in Cape Town.

Law enforcement agencies from around the world have gathered to discuss strategies that will help combat emerging security threats and organised crime around the globe.

Masemola says drug and human trafficking, as well as cybercrime, are major threats.

“Esteemed delegates, Africa is a continent of immense potential of growth, innovation and resilience. Yet, these very strengths are targeted by those who profit from instability and exploitation. The only way to protect this promise is to build strong institutions, share intelligence, harmonise our legal frameworks, and strengthen trust among our nations,” says Msemola.
