Arrested foreign nationals in the back of a police van.
A tense afternoon unfolded in Bruma, east of Johannesburg, where several undocumented individuals were arrested during a major raid conducted by the City’s Public Safety Department.
The operation which targets spaza shops mostly owned by foreign nationals.
This is part of an ongoing citywide effort to crack down on unregulated businesses.

Officials confirms that many of the arrested individuals were unable to produce valid identification or business permits at the time of their apprehension.
However, the Public Safety Department insists the operation is not about targeting foreign nationals but ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Those arrested says that they have their documents, but they are currently not with them.
The individuals are currently in custody pending verification of their status and documentation.
