FILE | Crowd gathers as forensic personnel investigate after the deaths of patrons found inside the Enyobeni Tavern, in Scenery Park, outside East London in the Eastern Cape.
The inquest into the death of 21 patrons at Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park outside East London in the Eastern Cape has been adjourned until tomorrow for the Emergency Medical Services official to testify.
Medical practitioner, Dr Sithandiwe Kunyuza, concluded her testimony today on victim’s cause of death.
Dr Kunyuza, one of the doctors that examined some of the deceased patrons, testified that asphyxia was the cause of death of the 21 teenagers at the establishment in June 2022.
Asphyxia occurs when the body does not get enough oxygen.
Kunyuza says overcrowding at Enyobeni on that fateful night made it difficult for oxygen to get into the vital organs of the deceased and that contributed to their demise.
