South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk celebrates taking the wicket of India’s Harmanpreet Kaur.
Former South African captain, Dane van Niekerk, could make a return to international cricket in the near future. The all-rounder who retired from international cricket more than two years ago was included in an extended 20-player Proteas training squad for the Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka starting next month.
Van Niekerk, a leg-spinner and top order batter broke her ankle in January 2022 which basically brought her international career to a premature end.
But after a successful summer of domestic cricket with the bat, Van Niekerk decided to make herself available for Proteas again and she is currently in Durban with the national squad.
Former Proteas Women’s captain Dane van Niekerk has come out of international retirement after two years.
