SANDF General Rudzani Maphwanya.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has denied a Sunday newspaper report that its chief, General Rudzani Maphwanya, is defying Defence Minister Angie Motshekga.
This comes amid concern about the comments made by the general in support of Iran on a recent trip to that country.
Critics say the general should not be involving himself in international politics and that the military must be apolitical.
In statement, the SANDF says Maphwanya is consulting with the minister and the ombudsman.
SANDF spokesperson Prince Tshabalala says, “The SANDF assures the public and the stakeholders that due process is being followed. Any final determination being made will be in strict compliance with the law and established military procedures and the directive of the executive authority.”
