The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have arrested a suspect linked to the murder of the slain Nelson Mandela Bay prosecutor, Tracy Brown.
Hawks spokesperson Avele Fumba says the 33-year-old suspect was arrested during a roadblock operation from Johannesburg towards Gqeberha.
“The 33-year-old suspect is currently in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August 2025, where he will face charges relating to the assassination of a female state Prosecutor.”
The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Mboiki Ngwenya says, “The arrest is a significant step forward, but by no means the end. The Hawks will not allow criminals to intimidate the justice system and will ensure that all those behind the ruthless killing are brought to justice.”
Brown was a regional court prosecutor and was assassinated by four armed men on the evening of July 31 in front of her home in Gqeberha.
