Delegates at the three-day Traditional Leadership Imbizo in Boksburg.
Traditional leaders have called on politicians to stop interfering in the affairs of the royal families for their own selfish interest. This came out at the end of the three-day traditional leaders’ imbizo in Boksburg east of Johannesburg today.
Earlier, politicians from the ANC, EFF, MK Party and Action-SA were called in to address the gathering. This followed concerns that some politicians in the Free State and North West are too involved in the succession battles of some royal families.
Chairperson of the National House of Traditional and Khoi Leaders, Kgosi Thabo Seatlholo says minerals in rural areas must benefit communities and not politicians.
“We have directly engaged politicians and those in government to say issues of royalty are sensitive and sacred. We should not be seeing politicians, or even senior officials for that matter, interfering who should be and who should not be. It is the duty of the royal family to appoint the right person. Whether there are business or there is mining there, they should refrain from coming to want to interfere on putting a person that they know they will easily corrupt, so that they can take whatever they want from the community without having to give a share that is due to the community,”says Seatlholo.
