The Gauteng government is engaging residents of Soweto on Thursday as part of its G20 Summit awareness programme.
The aim of the session is to brief the community about the summit, which is scheduled for November in Johannesburg.
The provincial government is also raising awareness on the significance of the gathering for South Africa and the potential benefits for township communities.
Gauteng government spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says, “For example, within this particular community, there are CCTV cameras that will be there post the leaders’ summit. A lot of work on street lighting, making sure we surface the roads. We will also engage them on some of the inconveniences due to road closures.”
“We will be doing the tourism package for Gauteng. When you are in Gauteng, what else do you want to see? If you attend a meeting and it ends at 1pm where else can you go?”
