Three suspects are facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure after they were arrested in Bramley in connection with the theft of cables on Sunday.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department says the arrest was as a result of a tip-off from residents.
JMPD Spokesperson Xolani Fihla says witnesses reported that occupants of a white Toyota Quantum were allegedly stealing cables.
Fihla added, “Officers arrived to find three suspects loading cables into the vehicle while two attempted to flee and were caught off the chase. A third suspect was discovered hiding in a manhole inside the quantum. Officers found 38 pieces of cable along with tools for theft, including a hacksaw and a specialised manhole opener. The suspects were detained at Bramley SAPS and charged with tampering with essential infrastructure.”
