Ramaphosa restructures National Convention organising team

The Presidency says the organising team for the National Convention has been restructured and is being reinforced by various social partners and civil society.

This in an effort to ensure that the convention takes place this Friday (15 August) and that the National Dialogue process can begin.

President Cyril Ramaphosa met with representatives of the Preparatory Task Team this week, amid concerns about internal divisions and the team’s readiness to deliver the event.

Despite calls from some stakeholders for a postponement, the President reaffirmed that the Convention will proceed, referring to it as a “call to action” for South Africans to take ownership of the country’s future.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, “The National Convention must happen so that the South African people can take ownership and control of the National Dialogue. Invitations have gone out to organisations across the country and delegates are preparing themselves to attend the convention.”
