The NCOP approves amendment bill from Eskom


The National Council of Provinces has approved the Eskom Debt Relief Amendment Bill. This is in concurrence with the National Assembly which has passed the proposed changes recently. The amendment is part of the ongoing interventions to rescue the power utility from years of operational challenges and financial crisis.

 

The Bill adjusts allocation of Eskom for the 2025/26 financial year from R40 billion to about R80. 2 billion. It also introduces an additional R10 billion in 2028/29.

Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane says, “Honorable members-the votes are as follows. There are 56 people who voted in favor. And those who voted against are ten. There was no abstentions. Therefore, in terms of section 75 of our rules, the bill is being agreed to. Thank you very much.”
