The Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court is expected to deliver judgment in the bail application of one of the three men accused of the murder of five-year-old Ditebogo Phalane.
Pelia Maeko, Ali Sithole and Nido Gumbo allegedly shot Phalane junior dead when they hijacked his father’s bakkie at their home in Soshanguve, North of Pretoria, in May last year.
The little boy ran out to greet his father as he arrived home when he was fatally wounded during the hijacking of the vehicle.
“During the bail hearing, the court heard that the three used similar modus operandi in other crimes.
Investigating Officer, Sergeant Mashudu Sevhasa testified that the accused persons have a history of similar crimes committed between 2023 and 2024.
The trio were arrested after allegedly selling the stolen vehicle for R30 000.
Sevhasa emphasised that these incidents share similarities with the murder of Ditebogo Phalane, noting that in all cases, the victims were targeted at their homes.
