Lawyer welcomes bail for woman accused of snatching Bellville baby

The lawyer of a 37-year-old woman accused of kidnapping a nine-day old baby from the Middestad Mall in Bellville in Cape Town last month has welcomed the decision by the court to grant her bail.

She appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on charges of kidnapping and defeating the administration of justice.

The infant has since been reunited with his mother.

The accused has been granted bail of R4 000.

The case has been postponed to the 15th of October for further investigation.

Asongezwa Mafuye represents the accused and adds, “I wouldn’t say I expected the decision by the court but you must remember that this is a schedule one offence, and she has minor children. So, I think the court looked into that and thought that it’s in the best interest that bail be granted so we accept the outcome of today.”
