Police investigate triple murder on Cape Flats


Police are investigating a triple murder after two men and a woman aged between 19 and 20 were gunned down in their home in Lower Cross Road in Philippi East, on the Cape Flats.

Police spokesperson, Andre Traut, says a fourth person was injured and taken to the hospital. Traut says two suspects approached the victim’s house and identified themselves as police officers.

He says the suspects then opened fire on the victims, killing three and injuring one person.

“Preliminary reports indicate that two unknown suspects approached a residence in Hankomo Street, Lower Crossroads, Philippi East, identified themselves as police officers, and claimed to be looking for something. The suspects then opened fire on the occupants of the house. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined, and the suspects remain at large.”

In another incident, a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in the early hours of Saturday morning in Brown’s Farm in Philippi, also on the Cape Flats.

Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, says police were called to the scene in Oscar Mpheta Street where they found the man with multiple stab wounds. Twigg says a case of murder is being investigated. “Police members were called to the crime scene, where they found the victim with multiple stab wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be established. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Nyanga detectives are investigating a murder case.”
