Over 1000 underprivileged children have taken to the skies this week as part of the 10th anniversary of The Children’s Flight, a life-changing initiative giving many of them their first-ever experience in a helicopter.
The annual event took place at Wonderboom National Airport in Pretoria through a partnership between the City of Tshwane and the Children’s Flight organisation.
The children who visited the airport beamed with joy. Thrilled to explore and take to the skies.

A 150 pilots generously pledged to give the children an unforgettable experience with the help of over 100 sponsors nationwide.
The event organizer Felix Gosher says the initiative targets underprivileged children from registered care facilities, many of whom would never have the opportunity to fly under ordinary circumstances. He says, the project continues to grow, bringing joy, confidence, and inspiration to children through aviation.
“The need for an event like this is based primarily on the need to connect people and bring the spirit of uBuntu to South Africa and allow aviation to show its best perception to the public and to the wider community that’s supported.”
MMC for Roads and Transport in Tshwane Tlangi Mogake emphasised that Wonderboom National Airport is a strategic asset, benefiting the participants and the city economically.
“This is a great opportunity for kids who would have never gotten to experience on a random day, these kids must know that they are not forgotten. This initiative also attracted local business while continuing to bring smiles to children’s faces which is the main purpose.”
