Police are probing a double murder after a man and a woman were gunned down in Lentegeur in Mitchell’s Plain on the Cape Flats.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi says another man was wounded in the shooting and was taken to the hospital.
Swartbooi says the suspects fled the scene.
“Upon their arrival in Lobellia Street at about 21:10, they found the bodies of a male and a female who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. Another male who also sustained injuries was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack forms part of the police investigation.”
The Mitchell’s Plain Community Police Forum (CPF) says there has been an average of 15 murders per month related to gang violence in Mitchell’s Plain over the past three months.
Various stakeholders, including the CPF, the Cape Flats Safety Forum and the Cape Crime Crisis Coalition, gathered at the Lentegeur Police Station to discuss possible solutions to the crisis earlier this month.
