Family members of two people who died in a fire in the Kennedy Road informal settlement are appealing for assistance to bury their loved ones.
A 25-year-old woman and her one-year-old child were killed when their house caught fire in the early hours of Saturday.
A candle is suspected to have caused the fire. Over 100 people are homeless after 80 shacks were destroyed.
A member of the bereaved family, Talent Zulu says, “She didn’t have electricity, therefore she had to lit the candle, and they fell asleep, When we arrived, Nonhle was trying to open the door, unfortunately there is nothing we could do as she was already badly burnt, We couldn’t do much to save them as there was a big blaze. We do not have the means to bury them as none of us is working.”
