Corruption case involving Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality and VBS Bank postponed


The corruption case of one of the three people implicated in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality’s illegal investment of R150 million in VBS Bank has been postponed to the 7th of August in the Polokwane Special Commercial Crimes Court.

The case of the municipality’s former Chief Financial Officer Rosina Ngoveni has been postponed for ruling on the application for the magistrate to recuse himself.

Ngoveni appeared alone as she applied for a separation of trial.

The former municipal manager, Thabo Mathogoane, and businessman, Thapelo Molathlegi are accused of influencing the municipality to invest in the now defunct bank and receiving gratifications in return.

Magistrate Daniel Mabitsela postponed the matter by saying it is for the recusal ruling.

“The matter was postponed to today for the court ruling on the application of your legal representative for recusal the court ruling is not yet ready today and therefore, the matter against you is here by postponed to the 7th of August 2025 for the court ruling on your application for recusal.

You remember that the matter against the other accused persons has also been remanded to a further date that is the 25th to the 29th of August 2025, but in the meantime will be busy dealing with your application for a recusal.”
