Construction sign
The long-awaited construction of the Greenville hospital in Mbizana in the Easterrn Cape has been halted before work on the foundations even started.
Locals are in disagreement about the sharing of job opportunities linked to the project.
Residents of Greenville are reportedly demanding that 80 percent of unskilled labour must come from their ward.
Residents from other wards demonstrated against the demands.
A community leader from KwaMzizi, Lindile Zulu says the demands by Greenville residents are absurd.
“They are demanding 80% of unskilled labour to come from solely that ward. They demand 70% of skilled labour to come solely from that ward.
They also demand that they want 60 percent of the composition of the PSC and on top of that they also demand the chairperson and the secretary of the PS.
So, this is to say we are not included in this project at all. By law we are and according to the pronouncements made by the MEC in a meeting we had.:”
