The mother of 11-year-old, Jayden-Leek Meek has been charged with his murder at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.
The mother of 11-year-old Jayden-Leek Meek has been charged with his murder. Tiffany Nicole Meek was arrested on Friday.
The case has been postponed to Friday, following her first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court in western Johannesburg.
The boy was reported missing by his mother on Tuesday, May 12th, and he was found the next morning, half-naked and unconscious on the staircase of the complex in which he lived. He was declared dead shortly after arriving at Discovery Hospital.
Community leader in Fleurhof, June Phillip says, “The community is devastated by the alleged perpetrator, who was arrested on Friday. The community is very sad, because we as a community supported the mother and the family. And apparently the mother was arrested on Friday. So, the community is really sad and devastated, especially the community of Fleurhof. The wounds were opened on Friday, where the community actually moaned. I feel that if the police went out on the day that she reported Jayden missing, and went into the house, maybe-just maybe, they could’ve found Jayden in the house.”

Deputy police Minister Polly Boshielo says more arrests are expected.
“31-year-old Tiffany Meek is charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria and and obstructing the course of justice. This is in relation to her own son, which is so sad. We will be following this case very closely until there is a conviction in this matter, and in this matter, we cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests. As the investigations into the murder of Jayden continue,” Boshielo says.
Community leaders from Fleurhof in Roodepoort say they, too, believe 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek’s mother did not act alone. Community leader Riona Coetzee says she believes that more family members are going to be arrested.
“I do believe that this person was not alone, so I think we are not happy yet. We’re still going to hear what happened to this child, and I think the other arrests will probably shock more people. Look, some of us are not really shocked that this specific person was arrested. We all did our own investigations, we were all unqualified investigators, but we need the others to be arrested and it’s painful because it’s not going to bring this child back,” Coetzee adds.
