14 year old among those arrested on Cape Flats


Police say three suspects including a 14-year-old boy have been arrested on the Cape Flats on separate incidents for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie says members of the Anti-Gang Unit acted on information about a firearm at a premises in Woodlands.

Pojie says the officers conducted a search at the premises and discovered a firearm with ammunition hidden inside a cupboard.

In a separate incident, in Elsies River, a 40-year-old was arrested. Pojie says the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting foot patrols in the area when they found an unknown male at a church premises with a firearm in his possession.

“Upon searching him, found a 9mm pistol without a serial number and four 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. Furthermore, they proceeded to an address in Icarus Close, Eureka Estate and conducted a thorough search of the premises. A 19-year-old male was found in possession of a 38 Special revolver with six 38 Special rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for the Illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. These suspects are scheduled to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court, once charged.”
