KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
South Africa’s Interpol Crime Ambassador Andy Mashaile has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to consider the services of a strong legal team to look into the allegations raised by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of being in constant contact with individuals linked to criminal activities.
He also accused some senior police officials of being involved in corruption.
Ramaphosa will on Sunday night address the nation.
Mashaile says this is a very sensitive matter, “Invite retired judge or some judges or some lawyers so that they can give a hearing to all the sides that are involved. Now going into investigation mode, the recommendations will come from that team that would have been assembled.
I am not expecting the President himself to be sitting through and listening to all of those things. Those who will be identified and would be invited will obviously give the President some recommendations on what steps to take. But this is not very nice. This is a threat to national security.”
