Health official accused of using classmate’s matric certificate

The man whose matric certificate was allegedly used in a forgery case involving Eastern Cape Health Department Deputy Director for Communications, Sizwe Kupelo, has expressed surprise over the matter.

In an affidavit read at the East London Special Commercial Crimes Court, Cinga Dyantyi says he had never lost his matric certificate and was shocked when contacted by the Hawks.

According to Prosecutor Advocate Siphamandla Ngxokolo, Dyantyi is employed as a nurse at Mthatha General Hospital and confirmed he attended the same school as Kupelo.

In his affidavit, Dyantyi says: “He was my classmate at Mkhankatho, but at CH Bokeni High we were not in the same class. Much though we were kind of friends, I do not know where he went to do his matric. When I was looking at his certificate, his subjects and symbols were looking exactly like mine. At the bottom of his certificate, there was a barcode that looked exactly like mine. I do not know how this happened and I was shocked to see it.”

Kupelo faces charges of fraud and forgery related to his National Senior Certificate; the case is ongoing.
