Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi will this morning receive the report of an investigation into allegations of racial discrimination against black healthcare providers.
This follows reports that some medical aid schemes in South Africa practice unfair racial discrimination in their investigations into fraud, waste and abuse by black healthcare providers.
Motsoaledi is expected to brief the media on the report after receiving it.
Spokesperson for the Department of Health Foster Mohale, says: “This follows a complaint logged by members of the National Health Care Professional Association and Solutionist thinkers in May 2019 about allegations of withholding claims by healthcare providers based on their race and ethnicity by medical schemes and administrators. This prompted the Minister of Health to direct the council for medical schemes to establish an independent investigation panel known as Section 59 Inquiry, chaired by Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi senior counsel to probe these allegations.”
