Joburg health facilities use backup system amid Rand Water upgrades

The Gauteng Health Department says it is closely monitoring health facilities across Johannesburg that are affected by Rand Water’s ongoing maintenance work.

Some of the health facilities impacted by this include Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic, Helen Joseph hospitals, and Hillbrow Community Health Centre.

The department’s Motalatale Modiba says some of the healthcare facilities are using backup water systems.

He says that at Helen Joseph Hospital, they have decided to prioritise emergency medical surgeries due to the water situation.

“At Hillbrow CHC, they are currently affected. They are using a Jojo tank. They are relying on the municipality to provide them with water. It is affecting the smooth running, but they are rendering services. We just want to continue appealing to the public to cooperate. There might be inconvenience here and there, but we are going everything possible to sustain services.”
