South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter hits his tee shot
Twenty-year-old Aldrich Potgieter, the youngest player on the PGA Tour, has become the youngest South African to win on the toughest golf tour in the world.
Potgieter, who lost in a play-off in the Mexico Open earlier this year, his rookie year on tour, needed 77 holes for his first win.
He beat American Max Greyserman with a birdie on the fifth playoff hole to win the Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.
The duo and another American, Chris Kirk, completed the regulation 72 holes in 266, 22-under-par, before Kirk was eliminated after a bogey on the second playoff hole.
Another South African in his rookie season, Thriston Lawrence, finished in a tie for eighth, three shots behind Potgieter.
Meanwhile on the LIV Golf Tour, another South African, Louis Oosthuizen was beaten in a playoff.
American Patrick Reed birdied the first playoff hole to beat Oosthuizen, Englishman Paul Casey and Jinichiro Kozuma of Japan to capture the title in Dallas.
The trio finished the regulation 54 holes in a tie for first on six-under-par.
