Police making an arrest
Over 15 000 people have been arrested in the past week as part of the police’s nationwide Operation Shanela.
Police also seized 2 349 rounds of ammunition and 115 firearms.
Suspects have been arrested for various serious and violent crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape as well as business and house robberies.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) continues to make significant strides through its nationwide operations to combat and prevent crime in the country.
This week’s operations resulted in the arrest of 15 248 suspects from the period starting Monday, 23 June 2025, ending on Sunday, 29 June 2025.
These crime-fighting activities include tracking operations, roadblocks, high visibility patrols, stop and searches, as well as tracing of wanted suspects.
Meanwhile, Gauteng police arrested hundreds of suspects for various crimes and shut down several unlicensed liquor outlets in Honeydew and Cosmo City in northern Johannesburg.
