Officials in the Eastern Cape say the death toll of the victims of the floods that hit the province two weeks ago has risen to 100. This comes as search and recovery operations continue for missing people.
Thousands of families have been left to rebuild after widespread destruction.
Gift of the Givers’ Search and Rescue Head Ahmed Bham says, “Yesterday we recovered five bodies now and then the previous day two bodies, and as the days go by, we are just trying to recover as much as possible just to bring closure to the families.”
Bham adds, “What we are doing over this week is we really have intensified search efforts as well. We just brought in many more teams, from the NGO, we have fetched a fourth search and rescue team to assist.”
