Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane says government is continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to Eastern Cape flood victims.

The death toll now stands at 92.

Speaking on the sidelines of the memorial service for flood victims at the King Sabatha Dalindyebo TVET College in Mthatha Simelane says there’s an ongoing process of allocating land where affected residents will rebuild their home.

“We have received a positive report from the Public Works here in KSD. I was in Butterworth yesterday. There, the municipality has the municipal land ready to move those who were on the riverbanks into an area. We are forcing with all we can to jump the step of TRU or what we call Temporary Residential Units. But let’s rather allocate land where our people will be given title deeds with the assistance of the relevant minister, so, that where we place them is in permanent land,” she says.

Simelane has described the damage as “too much”.
