Renowned South African actor, Presely Chweneyagae, has been laid to rest at the Zandfontein Cemetry in Pretoria. The 40-year-old actor passed away at his home last week.

Remembering his father, Chweneyagae’s eldest son Siyabulela Chweneyaga, described him as a funny, charismatic and present dad whose energy always filled a room.

He spoke during his funeral service at the Akasia Hall, north of Pretoria earlier today.

Siyabulela says his father put his family first and despite the long hours on set he still made time to show up for his family.

“Sharing you with the world was an honour. Me seeing my dad on television made me proud and also proved to me that anything is possible no matter your background. If you’re determined, you will make it. Through his acting, I could see people healing from their problems by making them laugh. I will remember our boys’ trips which were my favourite moments. We also went out on dinner dates and listened to music since he had good taste and was always eager to pass it down. We love you dad. We will miss you and may your soul rest in peace,” says Siyabulela.

Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe, has described the late actor Presley Chweneyagae as a towering figure who was larger than life. This as the funeral service for Chweneyagae has just been concluded at the Akasia Hall, north of Pretoria.

Mabe says this trailblazing talent left an indelible mark on the industry through his unwavering passion and commitment to his craft. She adds that Chweneyagae’s storytelling gave audiences the chance to see themselves represented through his lens.

“Wale Eazy, as he was affectionately known, was a true wordsmith. His charisma, humour, sharp wit would send you reaching for the dictionary searching for the meaning behind his poetic terms. We will remember Cobrizi Mokwepa as a star of the silver screen. So bright your talents will continue to shine like a guiding light with every role you captivated,” says Mabe.

Creative producer and screenwriter Bonga Vilakazi has described the late actor Chweneyagae as a once-in-a-lifetime storyteller, whose light will continue to shine through the memories he’s left behind. Chweneyagae died last week at his home in Pretoria at the age of 40.

Cobrizi rose to fame after starring in the film ‘Tsotsi’ which won an Academy Award in 2006.

Vilakazi was speaking at Chweneyagae’s funeral service at the Akasia Community Hall in Pretoria.

“In preparing for today, I struggled to find the words to say how do you sum up someone like Presley. Presley was layered. He was a man of deep feeling and enormous contradictions. There’s dazzling uncontainable light, but there were shadows too. I don’t say this to focus on his shadows, but instead to honour the fullness of his humanity. He was a man who felt deeply, who wrestled with things most of us often look away from and yet through it all he always showed up and gave us his art, generosity, humour. It takes a rare kind of strength to carry brilliance and burden and still choose to give joy to others and Presley do that for us,” says Vilakazi.
