Launch of the fund
The Western Cape Social Development Department has launched Cape Care Fund; an initiative aimed at boosting the resilience of organisations in the social services sector.
Provincial Social Development Minister Jaco Londt says a number of organisations from various sectors in the province had to close down due to budget shortfalls.
Londt says he hopes that this fund will help non-profit organisations (NPOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to thrive.
“The Cape Care Fund is an entity created between the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) and The Health Foundation of South Africa to raise funds to further support the work of DSD through vetted, registered, compliant and well-functioning NPOs and NGOs, with a proven track record of quality service delivery in the social services sector, in the Western Cape.
Organisations like those in the child protection space, elderly space or humanitarian relief sector play an essential role alongside the government in promoting the wellbeing in our communities.”
