Judges’ Secretary Andiswa Mengo
The Women’s Legal Centre, who are the legal representative of Judges’ Secretary Andiswa Mengo, have condemned in the strongest possible terms a death threat allegedly made against their client.
This comes after earlier reports that Mengo received a threat in the form of a handwritten note left on her desk last week Friday and it is widely reported to have allegedly stated a “bullet is waiting for you”.

In a statement, the Women’s Legal Centre says this is not the first threat Mengo has received since making a complaint of sexual harassment against Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge.
The Women’s Legal Centre states that the incident reflects the precarious and dangerous position women often find themselves in after reporting sexual harassment in the workplace adding that they have consistently and repeatedly raised concerns about Mengo’s safety with the Office of the Chief Justice, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Judicial Conduct Tribunal.
The Centre notes that it is still awaiting a formal response from Mengo’s employer, who has indicated that the matter is being dealt with at national level.
