The High Court in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape will inspect the home of one of the Cradock Four, Matthew Goniwe, when the inquest into their deaths resume this morning.

The four anti-apartheid activists were Goniwe, Fort Calata, Sicelo Mhlauli and Sparrow Mkonto.

Security police had abducted and killed them while they were leaving Gqeberha in 1985.

The court, which started to hear evidence in the inquest yesterday, will also visit the Garden of Remembrance.

The Calata’s son Lukhanyo says, “Think we are all feeling quite relieved that we get to be here today, we were here in September last year and obviously the matter was postponed for nine months, but we are very pleased to have been able to come back to court today and for the inquest to eventually start.”

“Yes we know it will almost happen in two parts, our part was the families, where we will give evidence and then once the financial matters are sorted out for some of the alleged perpetrators then we will come back and hear their sides of the story,” he adds.
